Katie Melua sang “There are nine million bicycles in Beijing”, but against the background of climate crisis and the quest for greener, more sustainable transport solutions, it’s Berlin that leads the way in Europe with a transport development strategy in which cycling (and walking) are fully integrated, thereby promoting better qualities of living and environmental standards in the city, for the benefit of everyone.

On his shoot in Berlin, photographer Alessandro Saffo saddles up to explore the city’s cycle network and there’s not a car in sight.
