Life at the Crossroads
With the Mediterranean on one side, Syria on the other and Israel to the south, Lebanon can be considered the point where Europe and the Middle East meet and occsasionally collide. Aldo Pavan's pictures of ancient and modern Lebanon bear witness to the turbulent yet rich history of the country. While by no means free of the problems of its recent past, the regeneration of Beirut gives hope that the country may regain the pre-civil war prosperity that led to it being called the 'Switzerland of the East'.
