Croatia reveals more of herself a little at a time. The country is inseparable from the Adriatic, but there’s also plenty to discover inland.
After shooting the islands of Murter, Rab, Lastovo and the National Park on Mljet, photographer Franco Cogoli came upon one of Europe’s most spectacular waterfalls at Krka, before proceeding into the heart of Croatia. Along the river Sava, he photographed the Lonjsko Polje Nature Park, situated on the alluvial plain between the cities of Sisak and Stara Gradiška. There, he discovered an unexpected Balkan landscape characterized by the flooding of the Sava, a tributary of the Danube. The Sava meanders lazily through the flat landscape creating the biggest wetland areas of the Danube basin.
