Sofiero Castle is situated close to Helsingborg in a strategic position, with a view on the narrowest point of the strait between Sweden and Denmark. The idea to built the castle came in 1864, as a summer residence for Prince Oscar and his wife Sofia. In 1905 the castle was given as a wedding gift to Gustav Adolf and his wife Margareta. The Princess began take care of the garden planting trees and flowers and when she died in 1920 it was Gustav Adolf that continued her work. In 1973 the castle and the gardens were donated to the city of Helsingborg. Today Sofiero's gardens are among the finest in Sweden and offer a wide range of activities during the spring and summer such as flowers shows, art exhibitions, festivals and concerts.
