They celebrated their 150th birthday just a few years ago, and indians keep saying 'it's the only good thing the english left behind when they went away'. The Indian Railways system is the largest in all Asia, with 63.000 km of lines able to move more than 13 million people and 8.500 passenger trains every day. Indians mainly travel by train, and a train journey offers a fascinating insight into the workings of their society. ITINERARY Journey from Delhi to Kolkata, one of the most important and busy lines in India: more than 1.500 km in at least two days (travelling by passenger or mail trains), or in 24 hours (by the modern Rajdhani Express trains).
